Wii U Marketing is focused on parents and their children, says Nintendo

In an interview to a news report from Seattle, United States, Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime stated that the Japanese company is investing more in marketing to the period of Christmas shopping than last year.

"For us, this year-end, the target audience of the Wii U are parents and their children," he said. "If you watch TV programs for the family, you are seeing our products."

Fils-Aime also indicated that marketing will remain in focus during 2014 with releases like "Wii Fit U" and "Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze". The executive also stressed that Nintendo games will not be released in the company's platforms, but the market for tablets and smartphones can not be ignored, and so the company is creating "small experiments" these devices to attract the consumer to the hardware as Wii U and 3DS for the full experience.

Numbers up today

The Wii U was released in November 2012, and so far has sold about 3.9 million units, and the company is estimated to sell 9 million by March.

In this period of year end, it's main competition the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, launched in November this year, both beating the mark of 2 million consoles sold in just over two weeks.
