Only in Japan: Wii U grows for sale and pace equal to the PS3
Nintendo has been the big winner in this year end in Japan Both the 3DS and Wii U had a substantial increase in sales throughout December.
The laptop kept her comfortable place best-selling system in the country, but who is surprising is the Wii U, that since the release of "Super Mario 3D World," is on the rise.
Of the 15 000 units sold weekly in mid-November, the console jumped to 110,000 units in the week ending December 22. For analysts, the growth is mainly due to the special packages Wii U launched in late October, that come along with "New Super Mario Bros.. U" and "Wii Party U"
So the Wii U complete 54 weeks of existence in Japan selling just over 1.3 million units, a similar pace with the PlayStation 3 in the same period of release.
Despite the overwhelming victory of the Nintendo, Sony can take comfort in the good sales that the PS Vita has been having: there were 50,000 units in the last week, which represented 11.5% of all games sold in the period.
Between games, who's standing out is "Puzzle & Dragons Z" for Nintendo 3DS, which has sold 800,000 copies in two weeks. The game is a version of a very popular game on mobile phones. "Pokémon X" and "Y" are still fine, totaling only 3.5 million copies in Japan
