Asked by excessive violence in " Bioshock Infinite " creative director Ken Levine stated that " one of the responsibilities of art is to show how it is when someone takes a shot , because it's really overshadowed in news ."
The statement was made in an interview with Boston Magazine , rebutting critics who claim that the ultra -violence diminishes the artistic value of " BioShock Infinite ."
Levine was manifested later on his Facebook page , continuing the comment. For him , art as a whole , has a number of responsibilities : to entertain , educate, inspire , challenge the status quo , challenge , anger , motivate reflection or just creating cool things .
" One of these responsibilities is to show things as they are . For every romantic comedy , there are films that show the pain of love is ' Amour 'or' The Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind ." For every film that portrays the value of war , there are films that focus on the most dehumanizing elements, " Levine wrote .
For Levine , the game can show war and violence as it is something that other media do to address the issue. " War is about people shooting a lot of metal at high speed on other people , to reduce them to pieces in a very primitive way ."
The designer explained that did not mean that violence should always be portrayed realistically in the art . " And was primarily questioning the notion that ultra violent images has no place in art ," he explained .
The director finished his text stating that not all art should be the same , but he also believes that no topic should be off limits of what art can portray.
fantastic adventure
Last work of Ken Levine, "Bioshock Infinite" was one of the most anticipated games of 2013.
Set in a dystopian floating city called Columbia, the game sparked controversy by scenes of violence present in a fictional universe. In addition, topics such as racism were part of the plot, bringing even more attention to the critics of political correctness.
